Briscola glossary
Carico, liscio, strozzare, the bella: Briscola has its own words. Here they are explained simply, in alphabetical order of the Italian word.
| Asso (ace) | The strongest card of every suit. Worth 11 points. |
| Bella | The third round, the one that decides the game when each side has won one round. |
| Briscola | The suit of the card turned face up at the start of the round: the trump suit. Its cards beat all the others. Each card of that suit is also called a briscola. |
| Briscola girata | The face-up card under the deck that sets the trump suit. It is the last card drawn. |
| Cappotto | When a player, or a pair, makes all 120 points of the round. |
| Carico | An ace or a three: the two cards worth the most points (11 and 10). |
| Compagno (partner) | In Briscola in pairs, the player sitting opposite you: your points are added up. |
| Liscio | A card worth no points: 2, 4, 5, 6 or 7. Also called scartina. |
| Mano (trick) | The round in which everyone plays one card. Whoever wins it takes the cards and leads the next one. |
| Mazzo (deck) | The face-down cards you draw from after every trick. |
| Pari (draw) | A round ending 60 to 60: nobody wins it. |
| Presa | The cards won in a trick, set aside by whoever took them. |
| Smazzata (round) | A game from the start to the end of the deck, with the points counted. On FantaCarte you win the game with 2 rounds. |
| Strozzare | Taking your opponent's carico with a stronger card of the same suit, for example the three with the ace. |
| Tre (three) | The second strongest card of every suit, after the ace. Worth 10 points. |
