Briscola in pairs
Four-player Briscola is the one most played in Italian bars and clubs: two against two, with your partner sitting opposite you. The rules are those of two-player Briscola, with a few differences.
Seating and play
- Four players in two pairs: your partner sits opposite you, the opponents at your sides.
- Everyone gets 3 cards; then the briscola is turned and stays under the deck.
- Turns go clockwise: after you, the player on your left plays.
- Everyone plays one card: the trick goes to the highest trump of the four or, if there are none, to the highest card of the suit led.
- Whoever wins the trick draws first, then the others clockwise, and leads the next trick.
Points
The card points are the usual ones (ace 11, three 10, king 4, knight 3, jack 2). The two partners' captured cards are added up: the pair with at least 61 points wins the round. On FantaCarte the game goes to the first pair to win 2 rounds.
Playing with your partner
- If your partner is winning the trick and the player after you cannot beat them, give them a carico: the points stay with your pair.
- If your partner is losing, do not give away points: play a low card.
- If you play last you already know who wins the trick: it is the safest moment to add points or to win with a low trump.
- Do not trump a trick your partner has already won.
