Burraco scoring: how points are counted
At the end of each round every team adds up its score: melded cards, burraco bonuses, closing, the pozzetto and cards left in hand. It sounds complicated, but there are only five items. Here's how it works, with a full example.
1. Card values
Every card has a value. Cards melded on the table count as positive, cards left in hand as negative.
| Card | Points |
|---|---|
| Joker | 30 |
| Pinella (the 2) | 20 |
| Ace | 15 |
| 8 to K | 10 |
| 3 to 7 | 5 |
Jokers and pinelle are worth their full value even when they are melded in place of another card.
2. Burraco bonuses
Every meld of at least 7 cards is a burraco and earns a bonus, added to the value of its cards:
| Clean burraco (no wild cards) | +200 |
| Semi-clean burraco (7 natural cards plus a wild card) | +150 |
| Dirty burraco (wild card in the middle) | +100 |
3. Closing and the pozzetto
- The team that closes gets +100.
- A team that hasn't taken its pozzetto loses 100 points.
4. Cards left in hand
The value of the cards still in hand is subtracted from the total. In Burraco for pairs, the cards in hand of both players on the team are added together. Whoever closes, of course, has no cards left.
A full example
Head-to-head game: Anna closes, Bruno is left with four cards in hand.
Anna
| Run of hearts from 7 to ace, 8 cards, clean (5 + 6×10 + 15) | 80 |
| Set of Ks (3×10) | 30 |
| Run 4, 5, 6 of spades (3×5) | 15 |
| Clean burraco bonus | +200 |
| Closing | +100 |
| Total | 425 |
Bruno
| Run of clubs from 5 to J with the joker in place of the 8, 7 cards (5+5+5+30+10+10+10) | 75 |
| Set of 8s (3×10) | 30 |
| Dirty burraco bonus | +100 |
| Cards in hand: ace, queen, 4 and a pinella (15+10+5+20) | −50 |
| Total | 155 |
Bruno had taken his pozzetto, so no −100. If he hadn't, his total would have dropped to 55.
When the game ends
The totals of each round are added up. Whoever reaches the target first wins: on FantaCarte 505, 1005 or 2005 points. If both teams pass it in the same round, whoever has more points wins.
On FantaCarte the game does the counting: at the end of each round you see every item, team by team.
